Climate Change Becoming a Threat to East African Tourism
It has been discovered that earnings from tourism sector are expected to decline if East African Community States do not come up with strong measures to solve this problem. Climatic change leadership training for youth and leaders from civil society organizations across Africa should emphasize the need to protect and reserve climate change factors so that while they are with their civil communities can eduvcate them the necessity about climate changes taking place in Africa. Climate change affect many animals mostly in the wildlife that are expected to migrate from national parks to isolated places and they may also die due to harsh climate or starvation.
Climate change is a big threat to the tourism sector because some of our animals depend on nature like vegetation, grass and forests for their survival. When wildlife disappear on our national parks , means that clients doing Uganda safaris will also reduce. But the rate at which vegetation is disappearing in the country is surprising trees have been cut down for burning charcoal as source of energy so government should try by all means to provide renewable energy sources so as forests to be protected.
Therefore if local communities have access to cheap power, this will reduce the pressure on forests that have been cut down for charcoal burning. Other species like snakes, birds have been scared away from their natural habituations and when such nature is destroyed, the country will remain with no creatures to attract tourists.
Although the government is responsible for handling climate changes, local communities should embrace the culture of agro-forestry which will help farmers to earn a living as well as the tress acting as carbon resistors. Therefore in order for climatic change to be mitigated in East African Community, member states should implement their policy on climatic change then the whole community will be in position to mitigate the effects of climatic change. Take a lead example of Bwindi Forest where gorilla numbers have been reducing for quite long period of time. Gorilla safaris will also reduce if numbers reduce. But thank the conservation efforts now being done to increase numbers of gorillas.
Actually what is lacking in the community is the political will to embrace policies and advanced technologies solutions that can help in controlling climatic change for example like how to generate power from agriculture waste products like cow dung and also producing biogas which should be imparted to the local communities such that our forests are protected.
Therefore the aim of the East African Community climatic change policy is to address the adverse impacts of climatic change in the region, in response to the growing concern of increasing threats of climatic change to national and regional development targets. The policy is consistent with the fundamental principles of the treaty establishing EAC and principles of cooperation.
