Dr Jane Goodall Visit Uganda
Dr. Jane Goodall today released 17 African Grey parrots at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. These birds were confiscated from Bulgaria in April 2010.
“I am excited to be here and pull the string that has given these parrots their freedom back to fly out,” said Dr. Jane Goodall.
The parrots have been under quarantine in an aviary at the sanctuary for the last 4 months.
They had been illegally shipped from Lebanon but confiscated from the Sofia Airport in Bulgaria.
Dr Jane Goodall the mother of protecting African primates having taken initiative to carry on research on different fronts as regards to African primates and mainly chimpanzees. Her efforts resulted into protecting forests where these primates reside and take to be their homes. Before that , human encroachment was finishing these forests. Through her efforts primate safaris have come into place. This has enhanced Uganda safaris which are combined with other wildlife. Uganda is famous for primate safaris as it has many forests . Kibale forest alone have more than 12 species of primates that dwell in this forest. In this forest chimpanzees have been habituated and tourist have been viewing chimps in their natural habitat for some good years, It is believed the Kibale has the best viewing chimps in their natural habitat in Africa.
Dr Jane Goodall is also known for establishing sanctuaries for rescued primates from poachers. In Uganda , under supervision the Gamba island on lake Victoria has come into existence to keep all rescued primates as they are rescued from poachers. And many more such in Africa
