Hoteliers agree to join workers unions
Hotel owners have agreed to recognize the Hotel workers union ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) next year. At the meeting at Hotel international muyenga Kampala recently, the Hoteliers accepted to officially endorse the union as a prerequisite to allow them host CHOGM delegates.
The meeting was called between the Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA), Uganda Hotel Food, Tourism and Allied Workers Union, Central Organization of Free Trade unions (COFTU) and labour ministry. UHOA brings together 107 hotel owners countrywide. Gender minister Syda Bbumba recently said hotel owners who do not allow employees to join the workers union would not be allowed to host CHOGM delegates.
This move will also help boat tourism facilities as well as tourism development in Uganda.
