The best place to view the birds of Uganda is from aboat of on one of country”s lakes or water ways which includes : Birding safari begins on the Victoria Nile ,All manner of birds hunt from the pyprus reeds , stalk about in the elephant grass and sit high up launches.The large fish eating raptor with a white head and neck that flows into its bold ,bronze chest is one of the most common birds seen in Uganda.
During a game drive in the branches of the forest watching the tourists chug on aluminum through the surrounding Murchison fallsNational park−Uganda’s largest protected area at 5072sq /km- we turn our attention on the shoe bill,with asingular name-like Madonna or Ronald .In the central western Uganda safaris ,the 40km kazinga channel ,which joins lake Edward with lake George ,is absolutely brimming with bird life.It’s not suprising to learn the channel falls with in one the World”s most bird rich park.
Queen Elizabeth National park hosts 612 bird species _ the second highest of any conservation area in Africa and the sixth most populous in the World, During a launch ride up and down the channel the bird _ spoting never ends. Pied king fishers with past the boat ,ayellow _billed stork hunts in the shallow shoreline and in some parts of Uganda ,the bird’s call is said to silence crying babies. Several larger brown birds fry past the boat then back to huge nest in the hills. Lake Victoria to birders is where they take pilgrimage that usually referred to a Mecca of Birders.
At lake Mburo ,the only National park in Uganda with entire lake , will see many species of birds. A pair of white _backed night _heron ,African Finfoot ,asmall duck .The lake is ahome to over 300 bird species including an estimated 200 mating pairs of fish eagles
The last stop on our Ugandan birding safari is aptly_ named Lake Bunyonyi_ meaning the place of many little birds”.In the lush lily_coated waters of Nyombe swamp includes African jacana hopping about on pads ,pied kingfishers hovering like helicopters before making asharp bomb into the water for breakfast and yellow_ billed ducks quaking and whistling amongst them selves.
To crown is all is when you visist the Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park with ever many endemics. Bwindi host a variety of birds that share the dene forest with mountain gorillas. Bwindi ha over 350 species and 90% are Albertine rift endemics- species which are difficult to ee in any other part of East Africa. An experienced Birder can easily identify up to 100species in day
